Why speak up at all?
My first “rape book” – as it’s come to be called – dealt with two teenage victims learning how to survive in the world. Obviously, the accused characters were presumed guilty from the beginning. They didn’t get any say in their defense because it wasn’t about them. A story that is meant to empower abuse victims has to belong to the victims. SHADES OF DOUBT purposefully takes a different approach, though, and is therefore harder to write because it tackles a scenario that is far too common: a respected pillar of the community is accused of assault. The majority of people who know him come to his defense, because “good guys” like him don’t do that.

SHADES OF DOUBT: “The average woman wouldn’t lie about this”
The light at the end of the tunnel is now visible with SHADES OF DOUBT. As I have yet to edit the first draft and decide whether I’m going traditional or indie again, no release date has been configured yet. My best guess is possibly Fall 2015, but we’ll see what life throws at me 🙂

It’s a surreal thing to pretend this is a normal evening by going through the usual motions of preparing for a date, but nothing is normal about this; nothing can be normal again. I never considered how the court of public opinion might be a rape victim’s only hope of justice, if she realizes she’s been raped at all. I never thought it would be such a difficult process to even comprehend that it happened. A few months ago, “I didn’t know I was raped” sounded as ludicrous as being “just a…

The Lady Smut Book of Dark Desires
Old Family Magic
by C. Margery Kempe
My tale ’The Lying, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ had its birth in Christina Rossetti’s poem warning of the power of sensual dangers and how good girls need to fight against their inherent sexuality. Students always read ‘The Goblin Market’ and think blah blah blah rules rules rules and never realise that Rossetti is rather ambivalent about the lure of sensuality. So I read it to them, aloud, slowly and with many well-chosen pauses.
She clipp’d a precious golden lock,
She dropp’d a tear more rare than pearl,
Then suck’d their fruit globes fair or red:
Sweeter than honey from the rock,
Stronger than man-rejoicing wine,
Clearer than water flow’d that juice;
She never tasted such before,
How should it cloy with length of use?
She suck’d and suck’d and suck’d the more
Fruits which that unknown orchard bore;
She suck’d until her…

Tracking The Hunter and other news!
HA Fortman Books ~ Romantic Suspense That Captivates
As many of you know, we lost my Mom in early December. Because of that, I was going to push the release of book two (Tracking The Hunter) back until early January. However, my step Dad approached me and said some things about my writing that brought me to even more tears.
He mentioned how proud he and Mom were, and still are. How amazed that I’d made it to International Bestseller on Amazon with my first book. And several other, personal things. Then he paused, took a deep breath and said, “The day before Mom left us, you called and told her that your second book was ready, right? If it is, do you think you can have them publish it on the 15th of December in honor of her?”
I stopped short. My heart crumbled all over again because, you see, Mom was my best friend. My confidant…
