Review – Secrets of a Wolf by Kelly Abell

secrets-of-a-wolfSecrets of a Wolf (Guardians of Spirit Rock Book 1)

by Kelly Abell
✩✩✩✩1/2

For all the suspense, mystery, and bad things happening in the town of Spirit Rock. I found the book to be light-hearted. Possibly because while all the horrid things are happening, the characters survive without any traumatic scars. Yes, there are moments of freight, but there are also moments of hilarity, and the characters are fairly positive attitude. They’re fun. Cameron is sexy, and Daphne really gets herself into some interesting predicaments.

The only downside, or things that bothered me with the story, were minor and didn’t keep me from thoroughly enjoying the book. Although I do wonder at the main culprits motives. They didn’t make sense to me, nor that the results expected, would be the ones obtained. Needless-to-say, we can put it down to the poacher being a bit crazy, and leave it at that. Plus I was never sure what happened to the second culprit. At least not for sure. Who knows, that might have been on purpose. A villain for another day.

Overall the book was very well written and keep me happily reading. The characters were great, and I look forward to reading about the other brothers and their women. It should be a very exciting series.

SYNOPSIS

Devastated, she escapes to Spirit Rock, South Dakota, to start over as the vet for an animal wildlife rescue park. A confirmed bachelor, Cameron Gray is shocked at his instant attraction to his new employee. He soon learns she carries quite a bit of extra baggage, but even so, his desire to possess the sexy vet ignites him with a need he and his wolf can’t ignore. But all is not what it seems…. What exactly drove Daphne to leave her successful career and move to Seattle?

When dangerous poachers bring the two together in the line of duty, Daphne discovers Cameron’s secret, forcing her to question every decision she’s made since arriving in Spirit Rock. Will the tender new love they’ve found be enough to hold them together or drive them apart forever?

Join the Gray brothers in Spirit Rock, South Dakota. Gifted with the power to shift into their own unique spirit animal, they have been bestowed with the enormous responsibility of watching over their ancestral canyon. Their strength and conviction will be tested…as will the depth and breadth of their heart and soul.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Diva of Demons has done it again!

This engrossing story begins towards the end of a sultry day.  Not an ordinary day, but the summer solstice, where half the creatures of Torth were in their fertile period, and the need to reproduce rode them hard.  The scent of sex literally curled through the air of downtown Halice.  The Watchers (The protectors of Torth, and consisting mainly of Lash Demons), were off duty, and had only one thing on their minds.  Sex!

Tanner and Saige (both lash demons) meet at one of the local clubs.  Wasting no time, they proceed to assuage their mutual needs.  As in, they have hot, steamy sex.  Orgasmic!  (Phew.  I needed a fan here.)  Once satisfied they part ways:  Tanner to return to Watcher Headquarters, and Saige to continue her search of strong males to lure back for her bosses for fodder for their underground fights.

Tanner can’t get Saige off his mind, or rid of her scent.  He swears her scent is everywhere.  Places she shouldn’t be, until he finds her with his enemy.  Deep down, Tanner knows that something isn’t right, and doesn’t stop until he discovers the truth.  Of course, that leads to a whole other kettle of fish……

Sharon Kay has done an outstanding job of setting the stage for this entrancing story.  Packed full of interesting creatures: some good, some not so good, and a few downright disgusting.  Good guy demons.  Or should I say…. Hot, sexy, alpha, good guy demons, countered by bad, ugly, mean, bully, demons.  But don’t worry; the good guys aren’t all goodie, goodie.  And the lady, while she might need some help, isn’t helpless.

Miss Kay, packs a lot of story into this novella.  As well, as action, humor, some steamy sex, self discovery, and romance.  She makes it almost impossible to stop reading.  And face it, who would want too.   I loved returning to the world of the Troth, and the Watchers Warriors.  I heartily recommend this book.

Although the first two books in this series were awesome, this book can easily be read as a standalone.

Captive’s Kiss Excerpt © Sharon Kay 2016

Saige threw back the shot, savoring the burn as it flowed down her throat. If she didn’t grab that male, there were dozens of others to choose from. Her captors preferred the most dangerous predatory species. They liked Deserati demons, but they also loved Lash demons, and she was certain she’d seen a group of Watchers walk in.
She glanced around, not spotting them at the moment. Probably already in rooms with females. Dudes as big as that had ladies hanging off them like vines at this time of year. She looked to the dance floor, which was just a packed mass of bodies. It was hard to tell where one creature ended and the next one began.
Her skin tingled, responding to the groping and kissing all around her. She needed to get relief, then she could do what she needed to.
She set down the glass and squared her shoulders, ready to sidle into the mass…and found her way blocked by a solid wall of muscle and a scent that almost brought her to her knees.
Smoke and a hint of dark spice clung to him. Well over six feet tall, he had short dark hair and green eyes that already gleamed with lust as he perused her from heels to hair. His eyes locked with hers, and she froze under the weight of his stare. Need, power, danger. And interest.
“Your name?” His deep voice rumbled around her, through her. His full lower lip looked bitable and her pulse quickened. He was a Lash, her species, and he was in the same hormonal boat she was. She could tell, even though she couldn’t resist a quick peek at the bulge behind his zipper.
“Saige.” She took in his enormous biceps and shoulders and inhaled once again. He was intoxicating, dreamy, sexy, and hot as hell.
A group of males pushed to the bar behind her, jostling her, and the Lash’s arms went around her shoulders, tucking her close. Her breath hitched at the sensation of being pressed against that wide chest, and she took another greedy inhale. She rubbed her cheek on the soft black cotton of his T-shirt.
“I’m Tanner,” he said, and she felt the words vibrate from his body the same way she heard them in her ears. “Let’s go somewhere quieter.”
“Gods, yes,” she murmured, and let him lead her around the bar to the dark area of private rooms in back.
His hand gripped her hip and he allowed zero space between them as he pushed through the crowd. His fingers felt magical, each tip a spark to her need. Gods, she was so overdue for this. She’d waited too long. She might orgasm just from him touching her over her clothes.
Oh, who was she kidding, she didn’t care how it happened. It just needed to happen in the next minute or she’d combust.
Tanner. She said his name in her mind, letting the syllables roll around. So sexy and strong. She felt something hard concealed at the side of his thigh. A blade. He had to be a Watcher.
The elite warriors were the self-appointed peace enforcers of the realms. They were honorable, but could be merciless to species who took unfair advantage of less fortunate ones. They were the good guys, the white knights…but their sex drives were just as insane as everyone else’s right now.  She slid a hand around his waist, dragging it slowly down his muscular ass.
He growled and shoved open a door that had been left ajar by a fae couple who’d just left. In one fluid move, he kicked the door shut and pinned her against the wall.
“You want this, Saige?” His hands circled her biceps and slid down to her wrists, leaving a trail of goose bumps. “You want me?”
“Yes. Now.” She captured one of his big hands and brought it to her lips, sucking his first finger into her mouth.
His eyes glowed bright green and he gritted his teeth. “Fuck, woman.” His free hand went to the center zipper of her corset—who the hell had time for hooks and laces—and pulled it down.

Five Stars of Awesomeness!

Sharon Kay has done it again.  Assassin’s Kiss totally rocks.  I was riveted from the first sentence and held captive until the end.  Scorpio and Tessa are intriguing characters that you can’t help but want to get to know, as well as the rest of the cast and crew.

This was the second book in the series, but it reads fine as a stand alone.

This book made my top ten of the month!

Review – Midnight Shift Episode One by Renee George

☕☕☕☕☕ = Better than 5 starsMidnightShiftE1

Unique New Story Line with Lots of Heat and Intrigue.

Brilliant beginning for what promises to be an outstanding new paranormal ménage? The first episode only hints that Benie, Ian, and maybe Trace will be a trio. Either way this book rocks and I can’t wait to read Episode Two. Since it’s out. I’m off to read it now! 🙂

Intriguing story. Benie kick’s butt and changes colors to match her surroundings. How cool is that! Ian is the sexy, genius childhood friend/lover, and Trace. Is luscious on a stick. He reads minds and has a way with swords.

One Sexy Slayer. Two Alpha Werewolves. A Dangerously Hot Romance.

She enlists the help of telepathic werewolf Trace Calder, a supe who specializes in mediation with the “other worlders.”

As Benie fights her intense attraction to both men, she knows she has more to worry about than losing her heart and soul. Soon, she finds out that the attack on Ian is only the beginning of a journey fraught with danger and dark truths—and a prophecy that promises Benie a destiny she never wanted.

The Lion Kings, Part Four by Renee George – Review

Queen of the cliff-hanger!  Renee George knows how to rock a serial.

Queen of the cliff-hangers is definitely a title Renee George has earned, as she really leaves you hanging, in the most torturous, delicious way.  The plot thickens, more of the supporting characters are revealed.  Some questions are answered, while others are raised.  And all the while, Maddie and her Lion Kings grow closer, ever reaching towards the elusive mating.  Maddie has their love.  Cage and Adam have their Queen, but will they be able to keep her?

Who killed Clary, will she get to Maddie also?  Will the Kings get to keep their queen?  These are only a few of the burning questions I’m left with.  Can’t wait for Part Five – the final conclusion where my questions will be answered.

Did I mention, that I absolutely love this serial?  I used to refuse to read a serial, couldn’t stand a cliff-hanger, but I read this as a favor, and have been addicted ever since.  Hot sexy alpha lion shifters, and a strong physic heroin, surrounding by an interesting carnival family.  What’s not to love?

I was given this book free of charge by the author for an honest review.

But after she meets the two men who shouldn’t exist outside her own mind, it’s hard for her to reconcile that her dream lovers are two very real and sexy men, not imaginary. All she knows for certain is she wants them both.

Cage was his most desperate rescue, and after a profound loss, Adam worries that Cage’s grief will drive him toward a brutality he can’t come back from.

The last thing either lion-shifter expected was Madeline Granger. She might be the answer to Adam’s prayers, in more ways than one, if he can get Cage to look past his pain. I read this book in serial format, one book at a time, and loved every single second.  The first book hooked me with it’s intriguing story line.  Come on, who doesn’t love a lion shifter…. and we get two!  Awesome hunks of lioness aside, the unique personalities of the three main characters blend and complement each other well.  Their chemistry sizzles, and the story flows smoothly.  I gave each of these books, together and separately – 5 coffee cups (better than stars).  A first for me with a serial.

My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Shifting Shadowsis an anothology that includes every short story set in Mercy Thompson’s world from older collections, plus four brand new stories, two of which are actually novellas. For me, the new stories alone were worth the price of admission, but I also like having all of these stories in one very nice collection.

I enjoyed revisiting some of the older tales that I had forgotten about, and I like all of the new ones, but my favorite of all is “Silver,” a novella that goes hundreds of years back in time to tell the story of Bran and Samuel, and the witch who made them werewolves. It was sad and dark, but beautifully done, and I will look at each of those characters a bit differently in future books.

If you are a Patricia Briggs fan and already familiar with Mercy Thompson…
