Welcome to “Crafty Authors Coffee Time with Tamye”.

Our special guests joining us today for coffee and crafts by the beach is not one but two “Featured Authors” for the upcoming Coastal Magic Convention, B.A. Tortuga and Julia Talbot.

B.A. and Julia are here to share their latest books with us and their part in the special craft project Kiernan started last week to raffle off at Coastal Magic for charity.  So hang around to see what they’ve been up too.

First off, let me tell you a little about this dynmic duo.

ba-tortuga-1211_249x249

B.A. Tortuga is texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds, getting tattooed, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head

Calling His Bluff  by B.A. Tortuga

A Club Raven Novel

Calling His Bluff by B.A. Tortuga

Patrick’s loss is Remy’s gain.

After his twin dies in battle, it’s Patrick Daniels’ duty to marry his brother’s fiancée. Too bad he can’t make himself do it, and in his distress, he manifests a psychic talent that’s stronger than the tornadoes in his native East Texas. Then a mysterious man from a place called Club Raven steps in and sweeps Patrick off to the booming East Coast city of Baltimore.

Club Raven veteran Remy Blanchard sees Patrick and knows, even though Patrick is very ill, that this is the challenge he’s been waiting for. He nurses Patrick back to health, and begins to teach Patrick to control his talent. His methods might be unconventional, and Patrick might be new to the kinds of sexual games Remy knows best, but the two of them find something in each other that might be just as magical as the gentleman’s club where they meet.

Excerpt:

The sheets were drenched, the world a violent place filled with tremors and waves of agony. Patrick twisted, trying to drive himself up, away from the sea of bites that covered his skin. He groaned when skeletal hands reached up from the depths to pull him back down. No. He wouldn’t go back.

Bébé. Bébé, you are a fighter, aren’t you? So strong.” The voice was soft, melodic, welcome. It had a lilt to it that pleased him, soothed him.

“Sing to me?” That voice could draw him up.

“Oh, bébé. I haven’t been asked that in a long, long time.”

“Please.” He couldn’t see the face that went with the voice but he knew it. Hot golden brown eyes, a strong jaw, wicked mouth. Hair like a raven’s wing. It made promises of things that were simply phantasms, but the sounds… Oh. The voice began to sing, a simple French lullaby, but so sweet. His tortured brain held onto the song, the melody a salve.

The grasping, bony hands clawing at him withdrew, and a kinder, warmer pair of hands began stroking his skin with a cool, wet cloth.

“It will be better soon, bébé. Mark my words.”

“They’re trying to drown me. I won’t let them.” Not when he could stay here. “Don’t stop.”

“You are safe from drowning, mark my words.”

“Am I?” He laughed, but the sound was dry as dust.

“I swear to you, by all I hold holy.”

Patrick opened his eyes, relieved to see the face matched his memory, blurry as it was. “You’re Mister Remy.”

“Very good.”

“I don’t feel well. I feel awful and guilty somehow.” He felt as if he’d gone and done something wicked and evil.

“Guilt is not for men like us, bébé. Let it be gone and you will feel better.” Remy stroked the cool cloth over his burning skin again.

“Is it so easy?”

“No, but then again, it doesn’t need to be difficult, either.” The cloth disappeared, and Remy held a glass of water to his lips. “If you practice, it becomes easier.”

The cool water eased him, splashed deep in his belly. He breathed deep for the first time since he’d awakened. “Better.”

“It is.”

The cloths were changed, the cool rags making him gasp. He clenched and unclenched his hands, trying to adjust.

“I know, bébé. I went through just this before I left San Francisco. Unlike you, I did it to myself, no?”

“Why? Why would you?”

“I was feeling guilt. You see? Totally useless emotion.”

“Indeed. Guilt is…” He had so many reasons for it—Henry, Caroline, his father’s eternal disappointment.

“We’ll work on it together. After you heal.”

“Soon? How long can this linger?”

“Not long.” Remy smiled, one hand resting on Patrick’s chest. “Not as strong as you are.”

A tingle made his muscles twitch and he pulled away from the wicked thoughts the dark hand on his chest drew forth.

“Did I hurt?” Remy asked, concern clear.

“No. No.” No, that was a comfort, down deeper than skin.

“Ah, good.” Remy began to hum again, that voice smoothing over every rough nerve.

The peace made him blink, made his eyelids heavy. All he did now was sleep and dream, but he was so tired. Remy was there watching over him.

“Be at ease, bébé.”

You help.” The words popped out, and he tried not to worry about saying them.

“Good. I want to, hmm?”

“Thank you.” He blinked again and again, but couldn’t focus, so he finally let his lashes fall since they were so heavy.

“Easy. Easy, bébé. Breathe.”

“Stay with me.” He shouldn’t ask, but he did. He needed Remy with him.

Happy Medium by Julia Talbot

A Club Raven Novel

Happy Medium by Julia Talbot

Andrew is out to debunk Max as a medium, not make love to him…

Max Bellame is working his way through 1870s Baltimore as a medium, even if he knows nothing about spirits. He uses the power of his mind to move objects, convincing his clients he’s the real thing. He’s making a living, but sooner or later he always has to move on. Something always happens. Usually a disaster.

Andrew Meechum works for Club Raven, a gentleman’s club that doubles as a paranormal research facility. He sets out to debunk Max, only to be fascinated by the man. Can Andrew convince Max to take a chance on love, and to find his true calling as a medium, or will their personal demons force them apart?

Excerpt:

The low gaslight in the creaky old parlor cast the perfect glow on the round table, lending atmosphere to the cheap crimson cloth Max had draped over it. A candle or two would complete the look, but he wouldn’t light them until immediately before the family assembled in the room.

He surveyed the seating. Seven chairs.

Max blinked, then frowned. He’d been told five family members and himself. Where had the extra chair come from and why?

He ducked back across the hall into the men’s parlor, where he’d asked the family to allow him to be alone to prepare for the séance. Max took a deep breath, rubbing his fingertips over his watch chain, which hung across his waistcoat. Changing the plan was against the rules. The Marsten family should know that. He’d been incredibly clear. After another inhalation, he knelt beside the large carpet bag holding all his tricks and pulled out a piece of white cheesecloth and a small glass orb. Those would serve as his floating spirit. The glass orb would be far more mysterious than the rubber balls some of his contemporaries used. He needed these and a picture of the deceased.

Many men had tried to debunk the Mesmerizing Maximillian and failed. That was because, while he might not be able to talk to the dead, Max didn’t have to resort to wires and dressed up actors for his tricks. He rubbed his fingers against his thumb, feeling his calluses slide together. Then he stopped, glaring at his hand. No tells. No nervous habits. Get this over with, get the other half of his payment, and move on.

Closing his eyes, he rubbed his hands on his pants, then nodded sharply. Time to set up. Max grabbed some tallow candles scented with a tiny bit of sage, the orb and cloth, and a few other tricks from his bag.

Thank God the parlor was still empty. The family waited in the dining room for his signal, sipping port or brandy in an effort to steel their nerves, no doubt. Contacting a dead relation always gave people pause, and for good reason. Inviting such things into your home, finding out information you didn’t want to know, was always a risk. Even with a charlatan like him, there was a chance of summoning something real. When that happened, if it did, his only backup plan was to run.

He thought of what had happened in Philadelphia and shuddered.

Max couldn’t think of that now. Candles, drunkards’ matches, the orb hidden behind the biggest chair. He placed a few atmospheric touches about, then lowered the gas lamps in the chamber.

Time to go get the family. He needed to lead them in, sort them out so they sat where he needed them to.

He strode to the dining room and knocked on the door, which swung open easily. Clearly the portal was meant to allow servants easy access with trays. This had been a proud house once, beautiful. Now it was run down and sad.

“I’m ready, Mr. Marsten,” Max murmured in a low, respectful tone.

“Thank you.” The gentleman of the house rose, his moustache twitching with distaste. Clearly he was indulging his wife with this séance; the lady in question still wore deep mourning rather than the gray and lavender sported by the other family members, so even though the death had been some time ago, she was unwilling to let go.

A man Max hadn’t met rose from the table with the daughter and two spinster aunts. Tall, broad through the shoulders, he had the carriage of a soldier, not a bit of slouch about him. He held his hat in his hand, and his hair, cut too short for fashion, shone bright gold under the gas lamps. His handsome face creased in a smile, lines crinkling up beside his blue eyes and his mouth.

“I hope you don’t mind that Miss Marsten invited me to attend,” the fellow said. “Andrew Meechum, at your service.”

“Maximilian.” He nodded curtly, noting that Mr. Meechum didn’t specify which Miss Marsten had asked him along. Both spinster aunts and the daughter went by that designation, so the ruse was a clever one, since all three ladies wiggled and fluttered when Meechum said the name. “I wish I had been informed ahead, but no matter if you come with an open mind.” Max gave a strained smile.

“I do.” Meechum spread his hands, apparently trying to look harmless. He managed about as well as a fox in the henhouse. “I am entirely at your disposal.”

“Mmm.” Max turned on his heel and left the room, the ladies preceding the gents as they all trooped over to the parlor. He stopped to light matches, touching them to the candlewicks. One of the spinsters, he could remember neither name, lowered the gas lamps even more, and the atmosphere changed immediately.

Wishful Thinking by Kiernan Kelly

A Club Raven Novel

Wishful Thinking by Kiernan Kelly

Summary:

Tony Brazzio, co-owner of Club Raven, Baltimore’s premiere men’s club in 1875, has a pocketful of cash and a chip on his shoulder. He’s out to prove to his co-owners — and himself — that he’s not a fluke, that anyone can be successful give the opportunity, no matter how poor his beginnings.

Bull O’Brian and Dandy Gilroy are two hoodlums from the rough streets of New York’s Five Points. They’re pickpockets by trade, and both possess psychic talents that make them two of the best. When Tony offers to bring them to Baltimore and give them the chance at a life of riches in polite society, they jump at the chance, if only to steal the members of Club Raven blind.

The best of plans rarely work the way they’re intended, and things swiftly go from bad to worse for Dandy and Bull. There’s murder afoot and a detective on their trail, and not even copious amounts of hot, sweaty sex can ease their fear or guilt.

As for Tony, he’s faced with admitting his experiment is a failure, something he’s loathe to do. It’ll take a great deal of persuasion, a little luck, and a lot of lube to make sure his plans for Dandy and Bull become more than just wishful thinking.

Excerpt:

Tony sat on a stool in Club Raven’s huge kitchen. A plate piled high with fragrant spaghetti Bolognese sat in front of him, accompanied by another dish holding an array of meatballs, sausage, and braciole. He held a tiny saucer full of grated cheese, and drizzled some over the top of the spaghetti with a delicate silver spoon.“Mama, it smells delicious.”

A very round woman hovered nearby. She wore a black silk faile mourning dress, and a long white apron. Her only jewelry was a simple gold wedding ring, a broach fashioned from human hair that was pinned to her ample bosom, and a pair of black rosary beads she kept in her apron pocket. Her gray-streaked black hair was neatly braided and pinned into a coronet encircling her head. She flicked her fingers impatiently toward his plate. “Si, si. Mangiare.”

Tony chuckled. “Si, si. I’m eating, Mama. You’re going to make me fat.” He twirled his fork in the pasta and lifted it to his mouth. His eyes closed in near ecstasy at his first taste. Nobody cooked like his mama. It was why he brought her to Club Raven as his private chef. She had a nice little apartment behind the kitchen. This way he could see to her needs, and didn’t have to worry about her living in Five Points, but she could still feel useful.

Perché hai portatoquei due ragazzi irlandesi qui?” She made the forked sign of protection with her fingers. “Sono problemi.

“I know the two Irish boys are trouble.” He smiled at her, then speared a piece of sausage on his fork. “I need to make them respectable. Rispettabile, you understand?”

Stai andando a mettere se stessi in difficoltà, Antonio.

“I won’t get myself in trouble, Mama.  I told you—I’m one of the owners in this place.” He shook his head. Mama just couldn’t believe that her son, poor little Anthony Brazzio from Five Points, could co-own a magnificent building like Club Raven. It was as if Mama spent her days with one eye always looking for the trouble she was sure was coming. “I admit, though, I’m wondering if maybe I made a mistake bringing them here. They’re up to something, I can feel it.”

⛱___ Crafty Authors at the Beach ___⛱ With #CMCon2017 ‘Featured Author’ Lucienne Diver

Welcome to “Crafty Authors Coffee Time with Tamye”.

We’re in for a treat, as our special guest today is another “Featured Author” for the upcoming Coastal Magic Convention.  I’m so pleased she accepted my invite to join me for a little chit-chat, coffee, and crafts by the beach.

Lucienne Diver and I have more than a few things in common. But what draws us here today is our mutual love for the Coastal Magic Convention. It’s a small, intimate event that allows the readers and authors to mingle and have a fun time together. It’s one of my favorite conventions. Lucienne agrees wholeheartedly.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with her or her works, here’s a brief bio:

Lucienne Diver

Lucienne Diver is a literary agent of over twenty-three years experience in the areas of science fiction, fantasy, mystery/suspense, romance and young adult fiction, as well as a novelist in her own right.

She’s the author of the popular Vamped young adult series—think Clueless meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer—and the Latter-Day Olympians urban fantasy series from Samhain, which Long and Short Reviews calls “a clever mix of Janet Evanovich and Rick Riordan”.

Her short stories have appeared in the Kicking It anthology edited by Faith Hunter and Kalayna Price (Roc Books), the Strip-Mauled and Fangs for the Mammaries anthologies edited by Esther Friesner (Baen Books), and her essay “Abuse” was published in Dear Bully: 70 Authors Tell Their Stories (HarperCollins).

Her first young adult suspense novel, Faultlines, releases November 15 2016 from Bella Rosa Books.

On a personal note, Lucienne lives in Florida with her husband and son, the two cutest dogs in the world, and enough books to fill an entire store and perhaps some day collapse the second floor of her home into the first. She likes living dangerously.

Chit Chat with Lucienne about Coastal Magic:

ProfilePicThree
I’m so glad you were able to join me today, Lucienne. What a wonderful way to enjoy the day. Caramel Iced coffee, the beach, and great company.

luciennediversm
That’s the truth, Tamye. Except in my case it’s an iced grande non-fat latte. Yum!

ProfilePicThree
What is your favorite thing or memory about Coastal Magic?

luciennediversm
My favorite memories of Coastal Magic have to do with the flash fiction panels I’m on with Damon Suede. He may be the funniest man in creation. (Next to my husband, of course! And yes, he paid me to say that.) The audience throws random things at us like Amish shapeshifters at Thanksgiving and horror/space opera/romances with platypuses. Or vampire penguins. I love it!
I also adore Damon’s Cinema Craptastique, which is a thing not to be missed!

ProfilePicThree
How many times have you attended?

luciennediversm
I’ve attended since the very beginning, since it was Olde City, New Blood in St. Augustine. It’s such a wonderful convention.

ProfilePicThree
Do you have any tips for my readers in regards to attending Coastal Magic?

luciennediversm
My main advice would be, “Don’t be shy!” These are amazing people, and every one of them is approachable. It’s not a convention where there are panelists and there are attendees. It’s a convention where we’re all family, and that’s what keeps me coming back every year.

Lucienne Diver talks Crafting and Faultlines

ProfilePicThree
I understand you have a new release coming up on the 15th. Do any of your characters craft, like you?

luciennediversm

Unfortunately, my characters don’t craft. They’re too busy saving the world, in the case of my Latter-Day Olympians and Vamped series. If they do craft, it’s MacGyver-type things in aid of escape, rescue or taking the bad guy down. In my new novel Faultlines, a YA thriller involving the serious issues of teen suicide, bullying, etc., my heroine, Vanessa, is trying to deal with the grief of her best friend’s death and reconstructing what lead up to it. Her hobby, soccer, is more like an avocation, the thing that keeps her sane. If only she could deflect everything life is throwing at her as well as she deflects the balls headed for her net.

But me? I’m a huge crafter. I’m one of those people who needs to be productive at all times. Usually it’s writing. But all my short stories want to be long stories…novels even. My novels then want to be series. But whether it’s a story, a novel or a series of them, these things take time. They’re painstaking, because I’m creating the characters, the scenarios, the crescendos and denouements from scratch. And then refining and revising until my work matches my vision. A finished product takes months, often years, particularly from idea generation to publication.

But another thing about me, I’m an instant gratification junkie. I love writing and I feel satisfaction when I feel I’ve really gotten a handle on a scene, but I like to have something to show for all my work. Also, some days the writing doesn’t go the way I want it to, and so I need other outlets for my creativity. I need to be able to sit down to a project from beginning to end in a reasonable period of time and have something to hold up and say, “I’ve done this,” even if it’s just to myself.

And so I bead. And scrapbook. And costume. A few weeks ago I couldn’t figure out where my novel was going next; I couldn’t write forward at that moment, but I still felt the burning need to create. And so I decided to make myself a steampunk hat.

I’d seen them, lusted after them, but balked at their hefty price tags. Surely, I thought, I can do this! And I did—out of cereal boxes, scrap fabric, an old waist cincher and a steampunk hairpiece I’d made prior. Is it perfect? Oh hell no. Just like novels that need revision, the hat was a draft. But I’ve learned from my mistakes, and the next time I’ll do better. Moreso the time after that.
But I have something to show for my work. Something tangible and finished, and that satisfies my burning need.

dsc00235

This new novel is the closest to my heart of anything I’ve written so far. Your blog on crafting and books and the awesome cover Bella Rosa Books did for Faultlines inspired me to create a scarpbook page for it. The cover has my heroine’s world all askew, and the silhouette of a girl running. It has the sense of menace and urgency that I was going for in the novel. And then the publisher really blew me away, adding elements from the book, like the raven that my vigilante character, who goes by Poetic Justice, adopts as avatar, the journal that reveals the secrets my dead girl couldn’t bear to speak, and the blood that explodes out of a locker in one of the attacks and which might again be spilled if my characters can’t stop the escalating violence. The cover is, quite literally, a work of art.

dsc00226-1

My scrapbook page doesn’t do it justice, but I had fun with it, and I hope you all will enjoy! And that you’ll pick up the book that inspired it.

What they’re saying about Faultlines

“Vivid, suspenseful, and charming, Diver creates a world where anything can happen in this must-read page-turner.”

Six months ago Vanessa Raines lost her best friend.

Lisa had changed, pushing away everyone close to her, even Vanessa. She had quit soccer. Started wearing dark and dismal clothes. She refused every offer to talk and suffered whatever she was going through in silence. Now she’s really gone. Suicide they claim, but Vanessa knows that isn’t right. It can’t be.

Vanessa blames herself for letting Lisa chase her off. She wants answers, so that she can put to rest the rumors surrounding Lisa’s death and so that she can move on, heal. But Lisa left no note and the journal she was always scribbling in—which might tell all—is mysteriously missing.

As Vanessa struggles to come to terms with the loss of her friend and to reconstruct the last months of Lisa’s life, someone calling themselves “Poetic Justice” begins taking revenge against those he or she thinks drove Lisa to suicide. Everyone at school believes Vanessa is this mysterious “Poetic Justice”. It’s easy to blame the former best friend, and Vanessa makes an obvious target.

Struggling with her own guilt, Vanessa is determined to ignore the threats and allegations aimed her way. But as Poetic Justice’s vengeance takes a darker turn, retaliation against Vanessa begins to escalate, from cyber bullying to violence, putting both her and the little sister she adores in the line of fire. To protect them both, she has to find out who’s behind the attacks before things turn deadly. And hope she can survive the truth.

⛱___ Crafty Authors at the Beach ___⛱ With CMC ‘Featured Author’ Terry Spear

Welcome to “Crafty Authors Coffee Time with Tamye”.  I’m super excited about our special guest today. She is the second Coastal Magic Convention 2017 “Featured Author” to join me for chit-chat, coffee, and crafts by the beach.

I met Terry Spear “in person” at the Coastal Magic Convention this past February, in Daytona Beach, but we had already met online back in June of 2014 when she joined my Books, Coffee, and Crafts Facebook group.  In fact, she’s one of our charter members.  From there we became friends, and not only did I discover that she writes wonderful books, but she makes the most adorable teddy bears.  I have one of her woody bears, and my daughter and granddaughter have a custom set that Terry worked hard to meet my somewhat challenging specifications. I knew she could do it.  And she did, magnificently. So when I was asked which of CMC2017’s featured authors I wanted to host on this segment, Terry’s was one of the first to come to mind.

Since I don’t expect Terry for a few more minutes, let me tell you a bit about her.

terry-spear-right1Terry Spear is a USA Today Bestselling author who writes urban fantasy and Highland medieval romance: hot wolves, jaguar shifters, medieval Highlanders and lots more. She also pens young adult paranormal romance. She has over fifty paranormal books to her name, earned Publisher’s Weekly Best Books of the Year, and has been featured in The International Wolf Magazine, Woman’s World and BGS Book Review Magazine. She creates award-winning teddy bears in the heart of Texas and gardens. She retired from USAR after rappelling, mountain climbing, learning water survival, qualifying with a number of firearms, survived the obstacle courses, leadership reaction courses and confidences courses – and knows if she can do it, her characters can overcome any obstacle she puts in their path.

Terry’s Mantra
“Giving new meaning to the term alpha male where fantasy is reality.”

Here are a few places you can connect with Terry Spear:
Website      Goodreads     Facebook      Twitter      Amazon     Wilde & Woolly Bears

Terry Spear is one of my go-to authors. I never pass up one of her books in the store. If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading her books, then you definately want to grab one soon. You won’t be disappointed.

(Oh, look here comes Terry now, and she’s brought the boys.  Tanner and Max, two of the cutest little pooches I’ve seen.)  I love getting her blog posts, or checking out her facebook page, because chances are high that one or both will be featured in a picture or video.

With a hug for Terry, and a belly rub for the boys, we settle down to enjoy our drinks (lavender tea for Terry, and coffee with cream for me), a nice chat, and a few fun surprises for everyone.  So make sure you read till the end or you might miss something really fun.

ProfilePicThreeThanks for joining me and my readers today, Terry. I’m so thrilled you’ll be attending Coastal Magic as a “Featured Author” this coming February. I had a wonderful time last year. I was so nervous it being my first convention, but everyone was so nice and friendly. I couldn’t have picked a better event to test the waters. How many years have you attended?

TerrySpearProfile50x50This will be my third. I love it! Love the area and the hotel, the people, Jennifer. It’s just all great fun.

ProfilePicThreeWhat is one of your favorite things about Coastal Magic?

TerrySpearProfile50x50Location, location, location!

ProfilePicThreeIf you could put a word in the event coordinators ear, what would you ask she do, or do differently?

TerrySpearProfile50x50I wouldn’t. I love everything she does.

ProfilePicThreeWhat tip would you give to people new to a reader/author conference?  (Me, I would suggest they bring a tote bag or something to have everyone sign.  Besides the bag they get to put all their swag in.)

TerrySpearProfile50x50That’s a great idea! Dress comfortably! The year before last, it was nice weather. But this past year it was cold. So be prepared for the changing weather. Otherwise, just enjoy!

What I love so much about this conference is that it’s primarily paranormal. Which is primarily what I write and I love connecting with readers and authors of the paranormal!

ProfilePicThreeYou and me both, Terry. My favorite genre is paranormal. Although I also love Urban Fantasy, and romance in almost any sub-genre. As long as you give me a happy ending, and a well written book, I’m happy.

Come join us at the Coastal Magic Convention, this February in Daytona Beach. It’s going to be an absolute blast. #CMCon2017

ProfilePicThreeNow that we’ve established that Coastal Magic is the place to be this coming February, can you tell everyone a little about the book you’ll be releasing next month, Terry?

TerrySpearProfile50x50I’d be happy to, Tamye. A Very Jaguar Christmas will release on October 4, 2016. But it’s available for pre-order now. It’s the fifth book in my Heart of the Jaguar series, and if you haven’t guessed by the title, it’s a Christmas book.

A Very Jaguar Christmas by Terry SpearA Very Jaguar Christmas
Book 5 of 5 in Heart of the Jaguar

There are all kinds of surprises under the mistletoe!

As a protector of all jaguar-kind, Guardian agent Demetria MacFarlane isn’t surprised to get a call near Christmas-but when she’s sent to protect a cub whose species she didn’t even know existed, her holiday season gets complicated. And it doesn’t help that her partner is a distraction of the hottest kind.

Hotshot JAG agent Everett Anderson can handle dangerous poachers and wildlife traffickers, no problem…but kids? Everett fears he’ll be stuck cub-sitting under the Christmas tree, but working with one sexy Guardian she-cat may be the best present he’s ever gotten.

ProfilePicThreeThat sounds awesome, Terry. I can’t wait to read A Very Jaguar Christmas. But then again. I love all your books.  I was thrilled when I ran across Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing at the store. Then to find out you were sending me a copy of a recent interview with Rafe Denali.  I was in heaven.  Thanks!  You are my hero.

billionaireinwolfsclothingBillionaire in Wolf’s Clothing
July 5, 2016

First in a BRAND-NEW SERIES about filthy rich werewolves and the women who are more than their match.

Billionaire werewolf Rafe Denali always gets what he wants, and he always trusts his gut. When sexy she-wolf Jade Ashton nearly drowns outside his beach house, he knows better than to bring her into his life. But there’s something about the fierce wolf that triggers his most primal instincts…and having seen her, he knows she will be his.

Even if she’s hiding a dark secret that could get them killed…

An Interview with Billionaire Rafe Denali

Reporter: You probably are asked all kinds of questions about how you made your money, who you’re dating—

Rafe: I have a wife, Jade, so that’s no longer an issue.

Reporter: And that’s just why I had some other questions in mind. I’ve seen your son and he’s the spitting image of you. Because you are so rich, he can have anything he wants in the world. Is there one thing he prizes more than anything else?

Rafe: Family. As it is for all of us.

Reporter: Right, but he’s a kid. So what…well, does he take with him places, or sleep with?

Rafe: I’d have to say a blue rainbow teddy bear. He calls him Buddy. Because that’s what he is. His buddy. He also has a green and blue dinosaur named Dino, but Buddy has to go with him everywhere.

Reporter: All right then. So teddy bears and dinosaurs aren’t out of fashion yet. Getting back to you then, what was your favorite toy when you were growing up?

Rafe raised a brow.

Reporter: Aw, come now. Did you have a favorite blanket, stuffed toy, ball?

Rafe: We made do with nature’s playground. Camped, hiked, swam, fished. We didn’t have traditional toys.

Reporter: I see. You didn’t come from a wealthy background. You made the money all on your own. Which always intrigues people like me. Gives us hope that some of us can make it too. What do you think helped shape you from the time you were little to mold you into the man you are today, a member of the billionaire’s club?

Rafe: Did you ever have a dream of creating something bigger than yourself? Of crafting a better mousetrap? Of creating something original that would fill the needs of many? To love what you do because it brings joy to others?

Reporter: Okay, you’re getting into the heart and soul of the story. How you take crumbling businesses and turn them into parks and livable, workable space for people who would never be able to afford such a thing. I admire you for that. It must be your upbringing that brought you to that. Now, as to your wife, she crafts original creations also. Lingerie and specialty children’s clothes. As to the lingerie, does she model it for you before she tries to market it?

Rafe only gave him a wolfish smile back. He was done with the interview because he needed to approve some more of the silky creations that were all his lovely mate’s idea. Though he’d had his input a time or too.

Reporter: I’d say that answers all of my questions. And tell the little guy to give Buddy a hug for me. All little boys should have a teddy bear to love.

And a family too, Rafe knew.

Creating a Teddy Bear by Terry Spear

Creating a teddy bear, and any other craft, is a labor of love. I’ve been making these for over thirty years! They’ve been featured in magazines and newspapers and found homes all over the world!
blue-rainbow-bear-and-baby1-624x640

First, I cut out the fur. And then, I sew the parts on my machine.

cut-out-fur-sew-up-bear-800x533

Next, I find a good movie to watch, and take my bear parts into the living room to begin the stuffing process. Max and Tanner, my Havanese, also join me for every step of the process. In the sewing room, and now in the living room. It’s a family project you see.

max-and-tanner-by-the-stuffing-640x427

There are quite a few steps from stuffing arms and legs, and then attaching them with joints. Then working on the head–putting in eyes, stuffing, and attaching it to the body.

bears-in-process-360x640-2

You can see the bears for one order all laid out on my couch while I worked on them like an assembly line. Though I skip around sometimes. So you see the bears made and partially dressed in Steampunk costumes. The sherbet bears are partially completed, the one slumped over without his head yet.

steampunk-bears-for-dani-partly-made-583x287-001

I included another picture to show the finished hats for several Steampunk bears also, which is a major process from cutting, to sewing, to decorating (the really fun part!)

steampunk-teddy-bear-hats-640x259

After the bears are all sewn up, I add the ears and the noses.

And then, I bring out my organized box of embroidery thread and begin to add names on their paws.

organizing-threads-360x640

Last come the bows, tags, and the cards. 🙂

bear-tags-ribbons-and-cards-640x360

And there you have a bear. The large sherbet bear shows the fur in the beginning, to the finished bear.

sherbert-fur-bear-on-fur-vignette-with-text-578x640

A creation made with love to last a lifetime.

ProfilePicThreeTerry, I can’t thank you enough for showing us how you make your adorable teddy bears.  I know I will treasure mine forever and ever.

⛱___ Crafty Authors at the Beach ___⛱ with special guest Hildie McQueen

specialguestcmcfeaturedauthorhildiemcqueen

Welcome to Books Coffee and Crafts News’ first “Crafty Author’s Coffee Hour”.  This is a new feature that I’m super excited about “Authors that Craft”.  Our On the Beach segment, will be for Coastal Magic Convention 2017 “Featured Authors”.  As one of CMCon17’s “Featured Bloggers” I have the honor of hosting one or more “Featured Author” each month.  I arranged (bribed) to get crafty ones.  😏

Today we’re in  Daytona Beach, Florida at a lovely little coffee shop I’ve conjured in my head.  My guest this afternoon is the lovely, and extremely talented Hildie McQueen.  She is the first CMCon17 “Featured Author” to join me.  I will be hosting a different author each month until the convention in February.

13173653_1320640787952214_1246154121214230504_n

For those of you who might not be familiar with the bestselling author. Hildie McQueen loves action, love and unusual settings. Author of western historical, Highland historical and contemporary romance, she writes something every reader can enjoy.

Most days she can be found in her pajamas hiding from delivery men while drinking tea from her David Gandy coffee mug. In the afternoons she browses the Internet for semi-nude men to post on Facebook.

Hildie’s favorite past-times are romance conventions, traveling, shopping and reading.

She resides in beautiful small town Georgia with her super-hero husband Kurt and two unruly Chihuahuas.

Visit her website at www.hildiemcqueen.com
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HildieMcQueen
Twitter: https://twitter.com/HildieMcQueen
Instagram: @HildieWrites

She writes paranormal as H.M. McQueen.

Here comes Hildie now.  Looking bright and cheerful, wearing jeans, a loose fitting multicolored top and of course a Kate Spade tote with her planner in hand. Once the hugging and fangirling is over.  Hildie is one of my favorite author type people.  Hildie, sweetheart that she is compliments me on my summer dress, and I ask where she got her adorable blouse, we place our order.  She gets an Earl Grey Latte sweetened with honey.  Then asks for a large cup and offers to split a toasted bagel with me.  I happily accept, and order an Iced Caffè Americano for myself.  Once our drinks arrive we settle in for a cozy little chat.

ProfilePicThreeI want to thank you for joining me today, and for being the first “Featured Author” from Coastal Magic, first “Author who Crafts” (Crafty Author), as well as my very first visitor to join me online for a Coffee Time Chat.  Wow!  That’s a lot of firsts.

Speaking of firsts, last February was my first Author/blogger/reader convention.  Coastal Magic Convention 2016.  I’m thankful I choose that convention, because it was so fun and casual.  I had so much fun, I decided before it was over, that I would be returning for the next one.  You couldn’t imagine how thrilled I was when I was chosen as one of the “Featured Bloggers”.  That means not only do I get to do spotlights for you and the other “Featured Authors”.  I get to help out at the convention.  I wish I had heard of CMCon17 sooner.  I could have been going for years.

What about you, Hildie?  How long have you been attending?  What has been one of your favorite experiences at Coastal Magic.

1496913_1263397550343205_2519799645491758359_n I am one of the lucky authors who attended the very first year.  It was called Old City, New Blood then.  Those of us who were there will never forget the parrots in the lobby.  It was a riot, but boy did we have fun!

My favorite event at CMC was that first year, when four of us hosted a Caribbean candy party.  It was a last minute throw together, and an absolute hit!

Every year I enjoy the laid back attitude of the convention, not only that, but who can resist books, fun people and the beach?

Crafty Author’s Coffee Hour

ProfilePicThree
Now for the crafty part of our hour.  Besides the excellent stories you weave, what else do you craft, Hildie?

1496913_1263397550343205_2519799645491758359_n

I’ve done some crafting.  Scrapbooking and card making and I’ve dabbled a bit into beading, but that didn’t last.  Little beads were everywhere and I hated stepping on them.  Finally I fell into the whole colorful mesh wreath thing, friends gathered at my house and made them for every season.  I don’t even use them, they were just fun to make.

ProfilePicThree
Wow!  I’ve never tried working with mesh, or making wreaths.  I’ll have to give it a try this fall.  I can see making an purple, orange, green, and black one for Halloween.

I noticed you mentioned papercrafts, but not your decorative planning.  I know that might not be the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions crafts, but I definitely consider it a craft.

1496913_1263397550343205_2519799645491758359_n

I love using paper planners and even make videos for planner people!

ProfilePicThreeI just recently started decorative planning.  I stumbled upon your video’s while surfing YouTube for “How to planner videos”.   I love your videos.  Not only did I learn a lot about planning, but about yourself as well.

Hildie promised to share a video with us, if I posted a picture of one of my planning pages.  So here’s a picture of one of my weeks.  Not near her level, but I’m a newbie.  I still decorate one week at a time, as I’m still figuring out my style and what works for me.  But I’m thoroughly enjoying it.  The happy side effect of decorative planning…..  I actually write things down a lot more.

You’re in luck.  At your request, I made one just for this event.

Hildie McQueen chats about Coastal Magic while decorating her planner for the week of the event.

ProfilePicThree Oh wow!  That was a wonderful video.  I love how you pull everything together.  So organized, yet pretty and fun.  You’ve given me some great ideas.  I’m going to have to check out some of the Etsy shops you mentioned.

I loved that you planned out the week of Coastal Magic for us.  I guess it might be a good idea to go ahead and do my planning for that week also.  Today has been so much fun and I’m so glad you were my first guest here on Books, Coffee, and Crafts News.  I look forward to seeing you again in Daytona Beach this coming February.  It’s going to be a blast.

Thanks everyone for joining us today.  I hope you enjoyed Hildie’s visit as much as I did.  And I really hope to see you all at Coastal Magic Convention 2017.

Please feel free to comment on this post.  I’d love to know if you are going to be attending #CMCon17 or if you have gone in the past. What you thought of Hildie McQueen’s video and/or decorative planning in general.   Also, what or who you would like to see on here in future.

Be sure to catch us next month for another CMCon17 Featured Author Spotlight.
